ARANDIS – The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has elected former Swakopmund regional councillor, Louisa Kativa, as the party’s new Erongo regional chairperson.
Kativa is taking over from outgoing chairperson Aloisius Kangulu, who currently serves in Parliament.
Kativa was elected on Sunday at the party’s regional elective conference in Arandis under the theme “New Leader, Renewing Unity and Restoring Hope”.
Party members Moses Mbuli and Johannes Tjoli were also elected as first and second vice-chairpersons during the conference.
The Outgoing chairperson said that the party has grown since 2020, securing three regional council seats and 13 local authority seats in Erongo.
According to him, the party has also established 32 branches and seven constituency structures across the region, while securing representation in parliament through four members.
Hence, you as the incoming leadership should work as a team, consult members and uphold accountability is bigger than individuals. Individuals will come and go, but IPC must remain,” he appealed.
He also calls for greater regional autonomy in decision-making and adequate funding for regional and constituency structures to carry out their activities effectively.
According to Kangulu, Erongo remains an economically important region, driven by mining, fisheries, tourism and the port of Walvis Bay, but continues to face unemployment, housing shortages and concerns about youth exclusion.
He also appealed to the new leadership to inspire young people, strengthen grassroots structures and maintain unity within the party as it begins its five-year term.
