Hollywood star Ryan Gosling is set to return to music with Dead Man’s Bones, the band he formed with musician Zach Shields. The rock duo will release new music on October 27, marking their first musical offering in 17 years.
The band announced its comeback through a video shared on Instagram.
Dead Man’s Bones released its self-titled debut album in 2009. The upcoming release will be the duo’s first new music since then.
Gosling’s partner, actor Eva Mendes, had hinted at the band’s return through a series of social media posts. In one of them, she wrote, “Trying to summon new music from Dead Man’s Bones.”
Following Thursday night’s announcement, Mendes shared another post, writing, “He came through on his promise to me.”
While Gosling is best known for his performances in films such as The Notebook, Blue Valentine, Drive, The Big Short, La La Land, Blade Runner 2049 and Barbie, music has been an integral part of some of his most memorable screen roles. He most recently starred in Project Hail Mary.
In Damien Chazelle’s 2016 musical La La Land, Gosling played Sebastian, a jazz pianist, opposite Emma Stone. He performed songs including City of Stars and A Lovely Night. The film earned him a Golden Globe Award for best actor in a musical or comedy.
Gosling returned to the musical spotlight in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 blockbuster Barbie, playing Ken and performing the song I’m Just Ken. The track became one of the film’s most talked-about moments, earning Gosling further recognition for his musical performance.
He also performed I’m Just Ken live at the 2024 Academy Awards, where his energetic rendition received a standing ovation.
