Ceylon Green Life Plantation (Pvt) Ltd has appealed to the President for relief, stating that more than 1,000 farming families and over 4,000 employees are facing a severe crisis following the suspension of its bank accounts without prior notice.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer has sent a special letter to the President’s Secretary, requesting humanitarian intervention to provide relief in the matter.
In the letter, the company maintains that it operates a genuine agricultural project and is not a financial institution that accepts public deposits. It says the relevant parties, including the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, have been informed of this, and that it has provided the documents and cooperation required for investigations.
According to the letter issued by the company, cultivation is currently being carried out on more than 1,800 acres of land, while polytunnel greenhouse facilities covering nearly 500,000 square feet are maintained in various parts of the country.
The company also states that it has earned foreign exchange by exporting local agricultural produce to countries such as Malaysia and China.
However, the letter states that the suspension of its bank accounts on 14 August 2026 has made it impossible to continue operations, including harvesting crops, making payments to farmers and paying employees’ salaries.
The company further points out that daily purchases of vegetables and fruits from farmers, payments to suppliers and construction work at factories being built in Kandy and Alawwa have also come to a standstill.
Stating that it is prepared to prove with evidence that it has neither engaged in financial fraud nor accepted public deposits, the company has also requested an opportunity to meet the President to discuss the ongoing crisis.
These are claims made by the company in its letter to the President’s Secretary. The letter does not state the reasons for the suspension of the bank accounts, nor does it include a response from the authorities regarding the relevant investigations.
