Track price pressures in mining, manufacturing and energy sectors - Government Statistician tells govt

The Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, has encouraged businesses to use the latest data on producer inflation to plan costs and prices.

He also urged households to plan budgets, and to policymakers, he asked them to track price pressures in mining, manufacturing and energy.

Producer price inflation was 4.8% in September 2026, up from 4.4% in August.

In simple terms, Dr Iddrisu said, the prices received by producers for their goods and services at the factory gate before reaching the shops were, on average, 4.8% higher than in September 2025.

The Month-on-month inflation fell to 1.3%, driven mainly by mining and quarrying.

Mining and quarrying contributed 2.4 percentage points, half of the 4.8% producer inflation in September 2026.

Within this sub-sector, prices for crude oil and natural gas rose by 18.3% over the year.

Manufacturing inflation rose from 3.6% in August to 4.6% in September 2026.

Together, mining and manufacturing account for 4.0 of the 4.8 percentage points of producer inflation.

Electricity and gas recorded the highest sub-sector rate at 9.8%, down from 12.3% in August.

Dr Iddrisu said at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, October 20, that "Prices at the factory gate today can shape prices in the shops tomorrow.

"I encourage businesses to use these data to plan costs and prices, households to plan budgets, and policymakers to track price pressures in mining, manufacturing and energy."
