GSK Korea is running a series of community programs to promote local health, including the creation of a health management calendar and the development of urban forests, to mark its 40th anniversary.
The company said on the 15th that it has been carrying out the programs since early this month under themes including healthy aging, disease prevention and respiratory health.
To mark Senior Citizens' Day on the 2nd, GSK Korea teamed up with HelpAge Korea to host a "Growing Older Together in Good Health" event at the Hwagok Senior Participation and Sharing Center in Seoul's Gangseo District. At the event, GSK Korea employees worked with older adults to produce a calendar featuring seasonal health tips and disease prevention habits, ranging from winter respiratory care to spring allergy management and summer hydration. The calendar will be released online next month.
The company also planted flowers and tended green space along the Jungnangcheon stream in Seoul on the 14th, in partnership with Ecopeace Asia, a nonprofit environmental group. The activity is part of a healthy urban forest initiative now in its second year, and the company plans to continue follow-up care such as watering and pruning. Later this month, it will plant 700 Japanese spindle trees along the stream, a species known for its strong capacity to absorb fine dust.
GSK Korea plans to continue the programs through the end of the year. "We will continue our various efforts to promote community health and support healthier lives," said Guna Rydiger, head of GSK Korea, adding that the company "will contribute to building a society that can stay ahead of disease."
