Jio Platforms has not rung an opening bell yet. Crypto traders are already pricing it anyway.
Bloomberg reported that the Reliance Industries subsidiary is trading on crypto platforms ahead of its listing on Indian exchanges. The vehicle is a synthetic futures contract, not a share. Its arrival lands just days before what is anticipated to be India’s largest initial public offering.
A pre-IPO bet with 20x leverage
On October 14, 2026, crypto exchange Bitget rolled out a pre-IPO perpetual futures contract called JIOUSDT. It is tied to Jio Platforms’ expected market valuation.
A perpetual future is a derivative with no expiry date. Traders can hold a position as long as they keep enough collateral posted.
The JIOUSDT contract trades around the clock, every day of the week. Funding settles every eight hours. Funding payments flow between traders who are long and traders who are short, and they help keep the contract price anchored to its reference.
Leverage goes up to 20 times. That means a trader can control a position 20 times larger than the cash they put down. It also means small price moves can wipe out an account quickly.
Crucially, holding JIOUSDT does not make anyone a Jio shareholder. There are no voting rights, no dividends, and no claim on the company. The product offers synthetic exposure to what the market thinks Jio will be worth once it lists.
The research describes this as a notable first for the Indian market. Similar crypto-native pre-IPO contracts have appeared around major US technology listings, and Jio is now getting the same treatment.
The IPO itself: big numbers, tight calendar
The traditional side of the deal is no small affair either. Jio Platforms aims to raise approximately ₹30,200 crore, or around $3.1 to $3.2 billion.
The company plans to issue a fresh batch of up to 270 million shares. The price band sits at ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share.
Public subscription runs from October 21 to 23, 2026. Shares are expected to list on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange on October 28.
At the offering price, Jio Platforms’ implied valuation is projected at around ₹10.3 lakh crore. In dollar terms, that is approximately $106 to $108 billion.
Why Reliance is doing this now
Jio Platforms serves more than 524 million users across mobile, broadband, cloud services and other digital businesses.
According to the research, the capital raised will go primarily toward reducing debt in the telecom division.
The timing also creates an unusual window. Between Bitget’s October 14 launch and the expected October 28 listing, JIOUSDT gives the market a live, continuously updated read on sentiment before the official order book even exists.
What this means for traders and the market
Traditional IPOs rely on bookbuilding, grey market chatter and analyst notes to gauge demand. A 24/7 perpetual contract adds a visible, tradable signal that anyone with a Bitget account can watch.
If JIOUSDT trades well above the implied ₹10.3 lakh crore valuation, it suggests speculators expect a strong debut. If it trades below, the message flips.
A crypto derivatives market is not the same crowd that subscribes to Indian IPOs. Pricing on JIOUSDT reflects the views of global, leveraged traders, and that crowd can be considerably more excitable than a pension fund.
At 20x leverage, a move of roughly 5% against a fully leveraged position could erase the trader’s margin. The research flags increased volatility as a likely outcome of pairing crypto derivatives with major IPO events.
The things to watch over the next two weeks are clear enough. Track where JIOUSDT trades relative to the ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 price band, how subscription demand shapes up from October 21 to 23, and whether the expected October 28 debut validates or embarrasses the crypto crowd’s early bets.
