PETALING JAYA: The husband of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) officer found murdered at a public housing complex in Nilai last week has a criminal record of 16 offences, police said today.
Nilai police chief Johari Yahya said 10 of the offences were drug-related while the remaining six involved burglary, theft and the possession of stolen property.
A preliminary urine screening test on the suspect, who is in his 30s, returned negative for drugs, he said.
Johari said police had recorded statements from 18 people to assist in the investigation.
"The investigation is ongoing, and we will refer the investigation papers to the prosecution on Wednesday for further action," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
He also said that police received no reports on any marital problems faced by the victim.
The 35-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband at about 7pm on Oct 15. He reportedly surrendered at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi police station in Sepang, Selangor, after the incident.
The killing was believed to have stemmed from a marital dispute, with the victim reportedly having asked for a divorce. The suspect was recently released from prison after serving time for a drug offence.
A post-mortem examination found that the victim died from pressure on her neck. It also found stab wounds on the side of her abdomen and cheek.
