The Osun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Nurudeen Alowonle, a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, over the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, in Ile-Ife.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, announced Alowonle’s wanted status on Monday while briefing journalists on the arrest of suspects linked to various criminal activities at the command headquarters in Osogbo.
Zungura disclosed that six suspects had been arrested in connection with the fatal incident, which occurred on September 13 at a motor park in Ile-Ife.
Among those in custody are Alowonle’s personal assistant and an operative of the state’s Amotekun Corps.
According to the police commissioner, investigations into the killing had led to the identification of additional suspects allegedly connected to the incident, while efforts were being intensified to track down those who remained at large.

The police identified another NURTW chieftain, Ojo Adeyemi, popularly known as Sibi, as one of the individuals being sought in connection with the murder.
Zungura said preliminary investigations and statements obtained from the arrested suspects allegedly implicated Alowonle and Adeyemi in the circumstances surrounding the killing.
He explained that one of the suspects reportedly disclosed during interrogation that the firearm allegedly used in the operation had been supplied by Alowonle.
Further investigations subsequently led to the arrest of Waliu Adejare, also known as Jay Jay, who serves as Alowonle’s personal assistant.
The commissioner maintained that the command was determined to apprehend all individuals suspected of participating in the crime, adding that efforts were ongoing to locate Alowonle, Adeyemi, and other suspects still at large.
