During the NBA offseason, many Golden State Warriors fans were disappointed after the team's pursuit of major stars fell short, forcing the front office to explore other options. The Warriors ultimately signed players with whom some fans may not be very familiar.
Golden State went on to sign several veteran free agents, including Brandon Williams, who has spent five seasons in the NBA.
“The Golden State Warriors are signing free agent guard Brandon Williams to a one-year, $2.6 million minimum contract, agents Derek Lafayette and Curtis Lawrence told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday. Williams is the team's first outside acquisition in what has been an otherwise stable offseason, providing needed perimeter bench scoring and speed for a reserve unit that often lacked it last season," ESPN's Anthony Slater wrote.
Another veteran the Warriors signed during the offseason was Georges Niang, a forward known for his three-point shooting.
“Free agent forward Georges Niang has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal with the Golden State Warriors, Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of Priority Sports tell ESPN. Niang -- a career 40% 3-point shooter -- enters his 11th NBA season after missing 2025-26 due to injury," ESPN's Shams Charania wrote.
On Thursday, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed that Charles Bassey, Niang, and Williams would be on the roster and in the rotation for the season opener.
“Steve Kerr says Brandon Williams, Georges Niang and Charles Bassey will be on the Warriors roster and in the rotation on the opening night against the Lakers,” Warriors reporter Joseph Dycus wrote.
The trio could play important roles early in the season as Golden State deals with two significant injuries. The veterans will look to stabilize a second unit that needs to generate offense when Steph Curry is off the court.
Bassey, Niang, and Williams have combined contracts worth roughly $9 million. The Warriors will hope their additions of Williams and Niang, along with the under-the-radar move to bring in Bassey last April, pay major dividends.
