As we look at Major League Baseball's free-agent class, aside from Tarik Skubal and a couple of other names, it's safe to say this class just isn't that great.
That's not to say there aren't guys who can make an impact on teams like the Boston Red Sox, but this free-agent class is a bit different than in prior years.
According to the latest report, because this could affect the Red Sox for many reasons, guys like Michael King and Sonny Gray could land big-time deals.
Another scenario is that Randy Arozarena, another potential Red Sox target, could get paid handsomely.
“The incoming free-agent class features scant stardom beyond Skubal. San Diego Padres starter Michael King and Boston Red Sox veteran Sonny Gray could also strike it big. Seattle Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena headlines a group of hitters that includes Milwaukee Brewers postseason hero Jake Bauers, two-time All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe and Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki.
“At 28, Padres lefty Adrián Morejón tops the relief market. The incoming class from Nippon Professional Baseball features pitcher Hiromi Itoh, third baseman Teruaki Sato and pitcher Kaima Taira,” Andy McCullough wrote.
The Red Sox will have to be mindful of things like this, and there's also a scenario where they have to move fast over the next couple of weeks. Free agents want to sign before this lockout, as a salary cap could cost them money.
If so, the Red Sox need to know soon what King, Gray, Arozarena, and other top free agents might want.
