Darius Acuff Jr. will face an acid test on Friday as the Sacramento Kings host the Portland Trail Blazers at Golden 1 Center for their home opener. He will battle the backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and Ja Morant, who are both battle-tested and always ready to embarrass anyone.
Acuff will be eager to redeem himself after his stinker of a debut in their loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, 12-196, at Intuit Dome on Wednesday. He scored 12 points on 5-of-24 shooting, including 0-of-7 from long distance, in a game-high 35 minutes. He also had three rebounds, three assists, three steals, and four turnovers.
It was a tough challenge for the 19-year-old rookie, and it will not get easier against the Trail Blazers. Still, Acuff said he is looking forward to playing against Lillard.

“I see a lot of similarities in my game with him. I always watched him growing up, and you admire his hard work. You gotta respect that, especially if you know what they do and then they show it on the court,” shared Acuff in the video posted by ESPN 1320 Sacramento’s James Ham.
“I always have the utmost respect for guys like that, and he’s definitely one of my favorites, for sure.”

Lillard had 25 points, including six three-pointers, three rebounds, and six assists in his first game since his Achilles injury, leading the Trail Blazers past the Suns, 124-83, at Moda Center on Wednesday.
Aside from Lillard and Morant, Acuff will also face Jrue Holiday, who is one of the elite defenders in the NBA.
Clearly, Acuff will have to bring his A-game.
