The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a young man popularly known as Don Cross and subsequent attacks on community leaders and destruction of property in Okpara Inland, Ethiope East Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, ordered a thorough investigation into the incident following a visit to the community on Wednesday.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that on October 12, 2026, some persons attached to an unidentified security outfit allegedly conducted a drug raid in the community, during which Don Cross was shot.
He later died while receiving treatment.
According to the police, some miscreants subsequently took advantage of the incident to attack community leaders and destroy property.
The residence of the community’s President-General was attacked, with two of his vehicles set ablaze and his house damaged.
The residence of the Vice President-General was also attacked and destroyed, while the community town hall was vandalised.
The hoodlums also set two vehicles, including a motorcycle used for vigilante operations, ablaze.
The Command said a combined team of police operatives from the Ughelli Area Command, Isiokolo Division and military personnel was deployed to restore law and order.
During his visit, Erale conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected locations and met with community leaders to discuss measures to restore peace and prevent further violence.
The commissioner expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and condemned the attacks, directing investigators to identify and arrest those responsible for the fatal shooting and destruction of property.
He also urged those involved in the attacks to voluntarily present themselves for investigation, warning that anyone who failed to do so would be tracked down, arrested and prosecuted.
“No grievance, however legitimate, justifies taking the law into one’s hands,” the police commissioner warned.
He urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and refrain from reprisal attacks.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and restoring lasting peace to Okpara Inland.
