Aizawl, Oct 21: Saitual District Police seized 1.457 kg of suspected heroin, estimated to be worth ₹2.914 crore, during a vehicle checking operation at Kualmawi in Keifang on October 20.
According to the police, a special team intercepted a white Maruti Suzuki Brezza bearing registration number AS 11 T 8278 at around 5:40 AM. The vehicle was travelling from Manipur towards Aizawl and was driven by Thangminlun Baite, 24, a resident of Kangpokpi district in Manipur.
Following suspicion that the vehicle was carrying illegal contraband, the police conducted a detailed search in the presence of independent witnesses. The search led to the recovery of 100 soap cases containing a substance suspected to be heroin, weighing a total of 1.457 kg.
The driver was arrested on the spot, and further investigation is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the suspected drug trafficking network.
