Thessaloniki will host Sing for Greece, the Eurovision national final that picks Greece’s 2027 entry, next February, with three live nights on ERT and ERTFLIX, the public broadcaster said.
Two semi-finals and a grand final will choose the artist for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest. That contest takes place in Burgas, Bulgaria, in May 2027.
ERT has now staged Sing for Greece for three years in a row.
According to the broadcaster, the live show draws strong TV ratings. It also sets records for views on its ERTFLIX streaming platform.
Moving the Eurovision national final to Thessaloniki shows its aim to share big events with the whole country, ERT said. In particular, the broadcaster wants to bring music closer to everyone.
“Sing for Greece is coming to Thessaloniki. And the countdown to the great music celebration has already begun,” ERT said.
How the Eurovision national final works
Under the rules for the 2027 contest, up to 20 songs will compete across the two semi-finals. Public votes alone will then send 12 of them through to the final.
In the final, however, a mix of public and jury votes will decide the winner.
Song submissions opened on 22 September, according to the call for entries on the ERT website. They close at 11:59pm on Sunday 1 November.
In September, Greek City Times reported that ERT had opened song entries for the 2027 selection.
ERT has not yet named a venue or exact dates for the Eurovision national final.
The road to Burgas
Bulgaria earned the right to host after it won the 2026 contest in Vienna, where Greece finished tenth. Whoever wins the Eurovision national final will then head to Burgas.
There will also be a familiar Greek face behind the scenes in Burgas. Greek Eurovision veteran Elias Kokotos will serve as Show Supervisor for the live shows of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
Before his new role, Kokotos helped steer Bulgaria to its first win in 2026.
