The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old butcher, Selim Ayodele, for allegedly stabbing his 26-year-old colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu, to death.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the stabbing followed a disagreement at their workplace in Alagbole, Ogun State, on October 18.
“The arrest followed a prompt police response after the incident was reported at Ajuwon Police Station at about 8:00 pm,” the statement reads in part.
Babaseyi said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased and the suspect had finished their day’s work at a cow meat-selling outlet when a misunderstanding arose over sweeping the floor.
The statement reads, “During the altercation, the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed the deceased in the left side of his chest before twisting the weapon.
“The victim was rushed to Life Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were deposited at Life Channel Private Mortuary, Lanbe, Ajuwon, for autopsy.
“The suspect is in police custody as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.”
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to prompt response, thorough investigation and the lawful prosecution of offenders.
He urged residents to exercise restraint, resolve disagreements peacefully and report criminal incidents promptly.
