The Asylum are digging up Z Nation.
The producers behind Sharknado and everyone’s favorite schlock meisters are reviving their cult horror/comedy zombie series with a reboot sequel.
Z Nation: Ressurection will be set in the same zombie-infested world as Z Nation, several years after the events of the original series. The world faces a new undead threat that threatens to wipe out the world’s remaining human population.
Asylum says Z Nation: Ressurection will feature a new generation of survivors, with fan favorites from the original show, including Warren (Kellita Smith), Murphy (Keith Allan), Doc (Russell Hodgkinson) and Citizen Z (DJ Qualls) are in talks to join the new series in supporting roles.
The original Z Nation ran for five seasons and 68 episodes on SYFY, from 2014-2018, and spawned a prequel series, Black Summer, on Netflix, which aired for two seasons between 2019 and 2021.
“Z Nation has never really gone away,” said Asylum co-founder David Rimawi. “The fans have kept this world alive, and for years we’ve heard the same question: ‘When are you bringing it back?’ Z Nation: Resurrection gives us the opportunity to return to the characters and universe audiences love while taking the story somewhere bigger, darker, and even more unpredictable.”
The Asylum is partnering with Vital Signs Entertainment, the production company founded by former SYFY executive Thomas P. Vitale, to produce the first, 10-episode season of Z Nation: Ressurection, which The Asylum is shopping to international buyers at the Mipcom television market in Cannes this week.
“The original series connected with audiences because it was fearless, funny, and never afraid to surprise people,” said Vitale. “Z Nation: Resurrection builds on everything that made the series distinctive while expanding the mythology, raising the stakes and creating opportunities to take the franchise in exciting new directions.”
David Michael Latt and Paul Bales of The Asylum are executive producing the new series alongside Rimawi and Vitale.
