PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman’s integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) is investigating the alleged assault involving Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Shuhaily Zain, who pleaded not guilty today to charges of injuring two police officers last month.
Bukit Aman JIPS director Aida Abdul Hamid said the internal investigation was being conducted in parallel with the court proceedings, reported Berita Harian.
“JIPS is conducting an internal investigation which is ongoing,” she said.
Shuhaily, 54, was charged in the Sepang magistrates’ court today with two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to Faiz Saman and Ekmal Sofwan at KLIA Terminal 1 on Sept 28 under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
He faces up to a year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on each charge if convicted.
Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani granted him total bail of RM3,000 with one surety.
Meanwhile, lawyer Kamal Hisham Jaffar, acting for Faiz and Ekmal, said his clients were preparing to sue Shuhaily over the physical injuries and trauma they suffered during the alleged assault.
Kamal said the amount of compensation had yet to be determined as his clients were still waiting for their medical reports, Harian Metro reported.
