With the Ballon d’Or ceremony starting in a few days, Harry Kane is leading the race to win the award. The Bayern Munich striker has the endorsement of numerous English players, including legends of the game like Steven Gerrard, showing their admiration for the England captain and indirectly helping his case to win it. The former Liverpool midfielder praised the 33-year-old ahead of Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
“Let’s all just enjoy greatness because that’s what he is,” Gerrard said (TNT as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “You know, he’s arguably the best English player that’s ever been and that’s the biggest compliment I can pay him. Because if you think about the greats that we’ve had, Harry Kane’s in that conversation.”
Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers and Jude Bellingham all indicated being in favor of a Kane Ballon d’Or win; Rice and Bellingham are Ballon d’Or nominees themselves. Although Gerrard did not explicitly back Kane to win the award, he joins Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen, Peter Crouch, and many English greats on the growing list of admirers of the 33-year-old.
