Finally some sense appears to have returned to British politics and there is talk of rejoining the European Union. Brexit has been a failure. Not only has it divided Britain, it has cost the economy billions and Britain’s standing in the world has fallen.
I do not blame the millions of people who voted for it, they were misled by a group of politicians who should have known better. I do believe that they should be held accountable for what they said at the time and what it has cost Britain. The dawn of the new Brexit era never got under way.
At the time of the referendum it was said that Britain would be better standing alone but circumstances have proved differently. The country’s key allies are in Europe not in Washington DC or elsewhere. Just look at the appalling way that President Donald Trump has treated Britain.
The special relationship is not special at all and it is clearly evident what the U.S. government thinks about Britain. Prime Minister Andy Burnham should be congratulated for his brave stance on rejoining the EU and trying to end the European thaw.
Those senior politicians who backed Brexit seem to have disappeared. Boris Johnson is absent without leave and Nigel Farage has seen his popularity slump. Brexit was a bad idea with bad results and bad management.
