Two brothers allegedly linked to the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) have been arrested with firearms and ammunition during a raid at a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya today (12 October).
The raid was conducted in block C-5 of Kutupalong 2-West Rohingya camp in the early hours, said Mohammad Siraj Amin, additional deputy inspector general (ADIG) and commander of the 14 Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
The arrestees are Mohammad Faisal, 21, and his brother Robiul Alam, sons of Syed Hossain and residents of the camp.
According to Siraj Amin, Faisal is a zimmedar (camp-level leader) of the armed group Arsa, while his brother is an active associate.
Acting on information that firearms had been stockpiled at Faisal's residence, an APBn team surrounded the house. Two or three people tried to flee, but police chased and arrested the two brothers.
A subsequent search of the house led to the recovery of two locally made guns and six rounds of ammunition, the APBn commander said.
Police are preparing to file a case against the arrestees under the relevant laws at Ukhiya Police Station, he added.
