Retired cops in western Jamaica received much-needed support
১৮/১০/২০২৬

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Five retired cops based in western Jamaica, some of whom are shut-ins, recently received care packages from the Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union.
The presentation was made during the Association of Past Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Chapter One's monthly meeting held at the Grand-A-View Restaurant and Event Place in St James.
Each package included a $20,000 cash grant aimed at helping recipients cover medical expenses, medication, and other urgent social needs. Many of the retirees face significant financial strain due to immobility and an inability to travel or earn supplemental income, despite receiving pensions.
The credit union's Montego Bay branch manager Cadeen Bygrave said the organisation is committed to supporting the Association of Past Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and its members.
The donation was warmly received by the members and Chapter president Harris Daley.
“This support means a great deal to us. It shows that we are not forgotten. After giving our best years to the service of this country, it is heart-warming to know that the Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union still remembers us, especially those who are shut-in and unable to move around as before. It is a morale boost,” stated Daley.
Daley emphasised that regular assistance of this nature would be invaluable moving forward.
“Many of our members are elderly, some are ailing, and any additional support will go a long way. We would be grateful if this could become an annual, or even more frequent, initiative for Chapter One,” argued Daley.
“Our retired members face several challenges — rising medical costs, the high cost of medication, limited mobility, and in some cases loneliness and lack of regular support. Some members are shut-in and need help with basic care. We are therefore calling for more assistance in the areas of healthcare, welfare support, and social outreach,” added Daley.
Established more than 32 years ago, Chapter One currently has 72 registered members and actively advocates for the welfare of all retired police personnel across western Jamaica.
