One Nation leader Pauline Hanson apologised on Tuesday for her party’s cartoon mocking independent senator Jacqui Lambie’s vaginal prolapse, saying it will be changed following widespread criticism.
What we know:
- “The video went up without my actually seeing it, and I was not aware of the content of the video,” Hanson said. “I respect people’s views and opinions out there, and it wasn’t as tastefully done as it could've been and I do apologise for that” (ABC).
- The One Nation leader now says she will look more closely at her controversial series, acknowledging the cartoon bears her name and she does take responsibility for it (Nine).
- Hanson had told Lambie to “lighten up” and “have a bit of a laugh” over the cartoon less than 24 hours earlier (The Guardian).
- “One Nation didn’t just make light of my own medical struggles, but those of so many other women who have experienced reproductive health issues,” Lambie said in a statement on Monday (Nine).
