Former NFL player Asante Samuel has suggested the Dallas Cowboys to hit the rebuild button by trading away their stars, CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.
‘America’s favourite team’ has gotten off to a 2-4 start and looked completely underwhelming so far. The offence that was historic last season has also looked miles off their best and ranks 11th in total yards per game.
This is despite having the likes of quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receivers George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. The trio is making a combined salary of over 121 million, but the Cowboys still look far from being a playoff team.
Having seen enough, two-time Super Bowl champion Asante Samuel is convinced that the Cowboys need a complete overhaul.

While the offence was expected to deliver, their defence was also set to take the next step with Jerry Jones having made some big changes in the off-season.
However, their defence is still below par and recorded just 1 interception so far this season.
“If I’m Jerry Jones, it’s time to shake s*** up, it’s time to make some big time changes and start rebuilding this team right now. I’m trading CeeDee Lamb and getting as much value from him as he can, hopefully that’s two first-round picks. The hardest thing to replace about CeeDee Lamb is his consistency, but guess what consistency isn’t translating into winning,” said Samuel on Say What Needs to be Said podcast.
“I’m going to make something happen with Dak Prescott during the offseason, by that time we should have at least three or four first-round picks… Now you got to get the best quarterback in the upcoming draft and then after you solidify your quarterback, make a few more trades, high-profile players that are young and ready to learn a new system.”
Samuel also suggested that he would trade Caleb Downs as part of the overhaul and part ways with Pickens.
The former cornerback stated that he would rebuild the defence around newest member of the Cowboys, Joey Porter Jr.
It is highly unlikely that the Cowboys trade away their top two players and a defensive juggernaut like Downs, who is still a rookie. The team might make some bold decisions, but it will be to build around Prescott, Lamb and Downs, as they are the pieces that can help the Cowboys get back to their glory days.
