Ever wanted to watch bears catch salmon in Alaska or elephants gather around a watering hole in Africa? You might not get the chance to see these events in person, but thanks to a cool website called Explore.org Live Cams, you can watch them from your computer.
The free website features more than 200 live cameras set up in wildlife locations around the world. You can watch brown bears fishing at Brooks Falls in Alaska, check out the infamous Trempealeau Eagles in their nest, or get spooked by the eyeshine of Nile crocodiles on the Mara Fig Tree crossing night cam.
The site also has live feeds of rescue kittens, puppies, and other animals living in shelters and care centers. I’m a big fan of the Mixed Species Flying Fox cam, which is set up at the Lubee Bat Conservancy in Gainesville. There’s just something about watching furry bats munching on fruit all day that warms the heart.
Many of the cameras also include interesting facts about the animals, local weather information, and comment sections where you can chat with other people watching. There’s even a collection of snapshots so you can see what you might’ve missed.
There’s no guarantee anything exciting will happen and you might spend half an hour staring at an empty riverbank. But that makes it all the more exciting when you do witness something.
Just like the wildly popular Dutch Fish Doorbell, these live cams give you something relaxing to have on in the background while you work and help us connect with nature just a tad bit more, even in the confines of our cubicles.
