Johannesburg Water has announced a 12-hour water outage affecting Cosmo City Extensions 5 and 6 in Randburg on Tuesday, 3 November.
The entity confirmed the planned maintenance in its daily water supply system status update, issued on the afternoon of 23 October. The interruption falls under Region C of the city’s water network.
According to the notice, the outage will affect all streets in the two extensions. Residents can expect to have no water for the full duration of the work.
When the water outage will take place
Johannesburg Water will shut off the supply at 7:00 on Tuesday, 3 November. The utility expects to restore water by 19:00 the same day.
Residents should store enough water for drinking, cooking and basic hygiene before the shutdown begins. Households with elderly members, young children or people with medical needs should plan ahead, as the outage covers most of the working day and early evening.
Water may take some time to return to full pressure once crews reopen the system, particularly for homes on higher ground.
Why Johannesburg Water is shutting off supply
Crews will carry out 24 tie-ins to connect newly installed 110mm pipelines to the existing 110mm water reticulation network. Johannesburg Water says the work will ensure the successful integration and commissioning of the upgraded infrastructure.
The utility listed several benefits it expects residents to see once the project is complete. These include improved water supply reliability and network performance, fewer water losses and pipe bursts, and better water pressure in the area.
Johannesburg Water also says the upgrade replaces ageing and deteriorated infrastructure. The entity expects the new pipes to reduce maintenance needs and future interruptions, and to improve long-term service delivery across the reticulation network.
How to report problems during the outage
Residents who experience problems during or after the scheduled maintenance can contact Johannesburg Water directly.
