(ANSA) - ROMA, 16 OTT - The Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Laura Ranalli, unveiled a mural dedicated to the Ghanaian artist Kofi Antubam at Achimota School in Accra. A Ghanaian sculptor, painter, art theorist, educator, and social activist, Antubam was one of the founders of the Ghanaian National School of Painting. In the 1950s, he created carved wooden reliefs that adorn the facades of the parliament building in the Ghanaian capital; during the same period, he painted part of the walls of the UN building in Geneva. The mural dedicated to him was created by Italian artist Francesco Ferreri (Chekos) together with students from the institute; the work is part of the “Artitude” project, born from a collaboration between the Puglia Region, the Random Association (Lecce), and ArtLifeMatters.
In her remarks, Ambassador Ranalli emphasized how cultural initiatives of this kind build a solid bridge between Italy and Ghana.
In the days leading up to the event, representatives from the institutions and associations involved met with the ambassador at her residence to take stock of the collaborative project.
