GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) sealed and seized five business premises in Batu Maung during an enforcement operation targeting licensing compliance on Tuesday.
The operation, codenamed Op Tegas, was conducted by MBPP's Licensing Department and Enforcement Department, with support from its Corporate Communications and Public Relations Division.
According to MBPP, inspections found foreign workers at several premises operating as grocery shops, eateries and barbershops.
"In one instance, a foreigner was unable to produce identification documents before leaving the premises.
"Inspectors also found raw chicken and fish processing activities within business premises, while one outlet offering barbering services had access to accommodation and food preparation areas," it said in a statement on its Facebook page.
MBPP seized business equipment and sealed all five premises under the Local Government Act 1976.
The city council said it would intensify enforcement operations to ensure business operators complied with licensing conditions and regulations in force.
