SANTO DOMINGO, October 18, 2026 — Playa Nueva Romana, the exclusive residential community operated by Piñero’s Real Estate & Golf division, hosted the Dominican Republic Tour Championship presented by Scotiabank, the season-ending event of the PGA TOUR Americas. Canadian golfer Joey Savoie claimed the title with a four-round total of 274, 14 under par, earning his second victory of the season and securing a place among the 10 players who will advance to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2027.
The four-day competition at PGA Ocean’s 4 kept fans on edge until the final round, showcasing high-level golf, excellent course conditions and the unique setting offered by the Dominican Republic.
The championship also awarded the final points of the PGA TOUR Americas season, confirming Thomas Ponder as the season’s top-ranked player and determining the 10 golfers who earned Korn Ferry Tour cards for 2027: Thomas Ponder, Corey Pereira, Étienne Papineau, Joey Savoie, Patrick Flavin, Charlie Crockett, Justin Biwer, Jack Lundin, Charlie Nikitas and Patrick Sheehan.
During the awards ceremony, Jaime Sitjar, CEO of Piñero’s Real Estate & Golf division, described the tournament as a milestone for Playa Nueva Romana and the company.
“Hosting the PGA TOUR Americas season finale at PGA Ocean’s 4 and witnessing such a decisive moment in these players’ careers inspires us to continue positioning our destinations among the leading venues in international golf,” Sitjar said.
He congratulated Savoie on his impressive final-round comeback, highlighted by five birdies over the closing stretch, and praised the 10 players who secured promotion to the Korn Ferry Tour. He also welcomed the opportunity to host the players again next year at PGA Riviera Maya.
Savoie Delivers a Decisive Final Round
The PGA Ocean’s 4 course, which is undergoing a phased renovation led by renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones II, challenged players throughout the four rounds. Four holes run alongside the Caribbean Sea, adding to the appeal of the course.
After 54 holes, Omar Morales, Charlie Crockett and Mesa Falleur shared the lead at 11 under par. Savoie began the final round two strokes behind but carded a 67 to finish at 14 under par and secure the championship by one stroke.
Jon Krakower, vice president of PGA TOUR Pathways, thanked Encarna Piñero, Jaime Sitjar and the entire Playa Nueva Romana and PGA Ocean’s 4 teams for their work in delivering the event. He said both the competition and the course exceeded expectations for a season-ending championship of this level.
Tammy Reynoso, deputy minister of tourism for the Dominican Republic, highlighted the event’s role in the country’s sports tourism strategy.
“The Ministry of Tourism has been working for years to promote sports tourism, with golf as one of its key pillars. We are honored to host this international PGA tournament in our destination,” Reynoso said. She added that the goal is for visitors to experience more than golf, discovering the country’s culture, cuisine and diverse destinations.
Savoie praised the hospitality he received throughout the week and commended the organizers for their work. He also highlighted the course’s excellent condition and described the four oceanfront holes as incredible.
The Canadian thanked Piñero, the Ministry of Tourism and Scotiabank, as well as the Dominican Republic, which he described as an island that may be small but has a big heart. He said he was eager to return.
A Stronger Position in Caribbean Golf
The championship further strengthened PGA Ocean’s 4’s position as a leading golf destination in the Caribbean. The course was named the Dominican Republic’s Best Golf Course at the 2025 World Golf Awards.
Its facilities include 27 holes: an 18-hole, par-72 championship course and a nine-hole, par-27 executive course, which is illuminated for night play — a feature unique in the country. The complex also houses the PGA Academy, dedicated to golf instruction and player development.
The conclusion of the championship marks an important moment for Playa Nueva Romana and Dominican golf, reinforcing the country’s presence on the international golf calendar while showcasing its potential as a destination for sports tourism.
