The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday warned the public that food could spoil faster because of the hotter weather brought by the El Niño phenomenon.
The ongoing El Niño phenomenon is expected to further intensify until the first half of 2027, with state meteorologists forecasting record-breaking heat.
“Ang matinding init at mga posibleng brownout ay nagpapabilis ng pagkasira ng pagkain. Siguraduhing malinis ang tubig sa paghuhugas ng pagkain, kamay, at mga kagamitan,” the DOH said in a Facebook post.
(The intense heat and possible brownout could make food spoil faster. Make sure to use clean water when washing food, hands, and belongings.)
“Takpan at ubusin agad ang lutong pagkain, at huwag iwanang nakabilad sa init upang maiwasan ang pagdami ng bakterya,” the agency added.
(Cover the food and make sure to consume the cooked food, and do not leave it out in the heat to prevent bacteria from multiplying.)
The El Niño phenomenon is expected to raise the average temperatures by around 2 degrees Celsius.
Over 100 cities and municipalities have already declared a state of calamity due to the rising temperatures. --VAL, GMA News
