The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested more than 200 foreign nationals in a large-scale operation against digital fraud in Islamabad, seizing servers, laptops and other equipment from the suspects.
According to media reports, the crackdown began with a raid in Sector I-9. Information obtained from the suspects arrested there led investigators to conduct further raids across the city, covering Sectors F-8, F-10 and E-11, where more foreign nationals were taken into custody. In all, the arrests spanned four sectors of the capital.
During the raids, NCCIA teams recovered laptops, advanced servers, computer hard drives and other electronic devices, which are expected to form a key part of the evidence. The nationalities of the suspects and the exact nature of the alleged fraud have not been officially disclosed.
In a separate case, the NCCIA has arrested a man from Khanewal for allegedly selling 5.1 million counterfeit postage stamps in the United States.
According to the agency, the suspect set up a website and used it to bypass the system of a foreign parcel company. He allegedly ran the operation for three years, selling fake international postage stamps to buyers throughout that period.
The NCCIA estimated the value of the stamps at $126 million, which amounts to more than Rs35 billion. Further investigation into the case is under way.
