John Buccigross saying last Friday that a Dylan Larkin trade might be less than two weeks away fits the latest rumor from Wild insider Michael Russo, who appeared on a Twin Cities radio station on Tuesday with the latest in the rumor mill.
“I think it’s gonna happen soon,” Russo told KFAN-FM 100.3’s Dan Barreiro when asked about Larkin, who requested a trade from the Detroit Red Wings in June and has reportedly had the Wild at or near the top of his list.
“I am under the impression, from multiple sources, that there was a conference call with the Red Wings the other day. I think there’s a lot of rumors out there that it’s getting close,” Russo said. “The question is, how many teams are going after him? How many teams is he willing to waive for? I still think he really genuinely wants to play here. If he didn’t, I think it could be done with a number of teams by now.”

If the Wild are to land Larkin, the question is how much they’ll have to give up. One of their top prospects, Charlie Stramel? A future first-round pick? 22-year-old forward Danila Yurov? More?
Previous reporting from TSN’s Darren Dreger suggests the price is very expensive.
“Three or four pieces,” Dreger said on TSN’s Early Trading last week. “Two A-quality prospects, a top-9 forward who can play with the Red Wings in the NHL right now, and on top of all of that, a first-round draft pick.”
That’s a load to give up, especially with how well Yurov has played for the Wild. Through nine games, Yurov has four goals, putting him on pace for roughly 40 goals as a 22-year-old whom Russo, in the same radio interview on Tuesday, compared to a young Joel Eriksson Ek with way more scoring ability.
Meanwhile, the Wild (6-2-1) are off to a tremendous start, despite playing without star defenseman Brock Faber, goalie Filip Gustavsson, and a bunch of other key players — Marcus Foligno, Nick Foligno, Jared Spurgeon, and Olli Maatta — missing multiple games with injuries.
