Ghana’s Black Bombers have arrived in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, ahead of the 2026 IBA Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships.
The competition, scheduled to run from October 19 to November 1, will provide the national team with an opportunity to test its readiness against some of the continent’s best boxers.
Ghana will be represented by Amadu Mohammed in the bantamweight division (55kg), Ebenezer Ankrah in the lightweight category (60kg) and Joseph “Jaguar” Commey in the light welterweight division (63.5kg).
Second lead coach Charles Quartey will head Ghana’s technical team for the championship as the boxers seek to make an impact in Kinshasa.
The tournament forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2028 Olympic boxing qualifiers, with the Black Bombers targeting strong performances as they build towards the qualifying campaign.
Ghana hopes to use the competition to assess its boxers, gain valuable international experience and strengthen its medal prospects ahead of the Olympic qualification process.
The team’s participation aligns with its broader ambition to secure multiple medals at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The championships will bring together elite male and female boxers from across Africa, offering the Ghanaian contingent an important test against continental opposition.
