ONGWEDIVA- Musician Uutoni Ismael, popularly known as Dragon Fire is using music not only to entertain audiences but also to tell real-life stories and communicate messages that people can relate to.
Dragon Fire, who started his music career in 2018, said his breakthrough came in 2023 following the release of his hit song Chokotola, which helped him gain popularity and reach a wider audience.
He told VIBEZ that, he performs across different genres, including House, Lipompo and Gospel.
Dragon Fire said his decision to explore different genres is driven by his belief that music can bring people from different backgrounds together.
“People should listen to my music because my songs tell the truth about things that happen in real life. My music is not only about entertainment; it also carries messages that people can relate to through their daily experiences,” he said.
He mentioned that one of the major challenges facing his music career is a lack of bookings. He said artists can sometimes go for several months without receiving opportunities to perform, making it difficult to sustain a career in the music industry.
“Like many other artists, I also face financial challenges. Despite these difficulties, I remain committed to my music because I believe in my talent and my dreams,” he said.
Dragon Fire also mentioned that has so far released two albums, with his debut album titled ‘Never Give Up’.
He said most of the songs on the album were produced at YKMP by King Mex, while some were produced by Silent at Fan Base Studios.
His second album, Chokotola, followed, and he is now preparing to release his third album, ELAMA LA ANACKY, at the end of October 2026.
The local artist described Namibia’s music industry as challenging, particularly for upcoming and independent musicians.
He said the income generated by artists is often insufficient to cover the costs associated with music production, promotion and sustaining their careers.
He also called for increased government support and funding for Namibian artists.
“Music is more than just a business. It has the power to heal, comfort and inspire people. Sometimes, when someone is stressed or going through a difficult time, listening to the right song can help them feel better. That is why I believe music plays an important role in our society,” he said.
He encouraged young people to believe in themselves, develop their creativity and remain committed to their dreams.
His message to the youth is not to wait for someone else to change their lives, but to make use of what they have and work towards building a better future.
“Whether you are interested in music, business, sports or any other talent, keep working hard and stay focused. There may be challenges along the way, but with patience, determination and consistency, you can make a difference in your life and in your community,” he said.
