BRAC Bank has partnered with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to enable residential, commercial and industrial customers to pay postpaid electricity bills through its nationwide branch network and digital banking platforms.
The partnership is expected to benefit approximately 12 lakh postpaid customers by providing additional payment channels and enabling real-time updates of payment records, according to the press release.
BRAC Bank said it was the first private commercial bank to secure BPDB's central account alongside a state-owned bank.
Under the agreement, customers will be able to pay bills through BRAC Bank's branches and sub-branches, its retail banking app Astha and corporate digital banking platform CORPNET.
The bank will establish application programming interface connectivity with BPDB to enable real-time updates of bill payment records.
The integration aims to streamline payment processing and reconciliation, making the process more convenient and efficient for customers.
The agreement was signed at BPDB's head office in Dhaka on 22 September 2026.
Anjana Khan Mojlish, member for finance at BPDB and a joint secretary, said, "BRAC Bank has established a strong reputation through its customer-centric approach, compliance culture, sound governance and professional management. We are pleased to welcome BRAC Bank as a partner for online bill collection and look forward to a successful collaboration that will bring greater convenience to our customers."
Md Shaheen Iqbal, additional managing director and head of wholesale banking at BRAC Bank, said, "This partnership reflects our continued focus on making everyday banking and payment services more accessible and convenient. By combining our nationwide distribution network with digital banking capabilities, we aim to simplify electricity bill payments for BPDB customers. We look forward to expanding similar partnerships with public and private-sector organisations to deliver seamless payment solutions."
BPDB representatives at the ceremony included Saleh Ahmed, director of finance; Engineer Md Abdul Basid, member for distribution; Mohammed Nurul Absar, general manager for commercial operations; and Mriganka Mohan Paul, senior system analyst at Dhaka Computer Centre.
BRAC Bank was represented by AKM Faisal Halim, head of transaction banking; Musabbir Ahmed, head of cash management; and Shaikh Mohammad Imran Quader, regional head of the distribution network.
Other senior officials from both organisations also attended.
The bank said the collaboration reflected its commitment to expanding digital collection and payment solutions for public-sector organisations while improving customers' access to essential payment services across Bangladesh.
