Milos Garic, a member of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) Council, said Wednesday that the ongoing operational issues within the Serbian media regulator are further exacerbated by flaws in the Law on Electronic Media itself.

Garic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the law is overly restrictive, that certain provisions are difficult to implement, and that the way the Council’s jurisdiction is drafted leaves too much room for conflicting interpretations.
“This law is bad, and it needs to be revised quickly,” Garic said.
He also discussed the current operations of the REM Council, which is reviewing complaints filed against six television stations, including the public broadcaster RTS.
One of the key issues brought forward involves the appearance of minors in television programs during a political campaign.
A REM Council session is scheduled for Wednesday. The agenda features a debate over controversial campaign ads in which Aleksandar Vucic – who heads the “Aleksandar Vucic – United Serbia” electoral list - appears alongside children. The ads were broadcast on networks with national broadcasting frequencies, including RTS, the daily Danas reported.
