Hundreds of supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement on Friday submitted a protest letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kano State.
The exercise which was entirely peaceful and orderly followed the alleged omission of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in the state, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo from the list of candidates released last weekend by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 polls.
The Movement, led by the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the NDC in the state, Mustapha Rabiu Lusa Kwankwaso demanded the immediate reinstatement of their fladbearer by the Commission
Kwankwaso insisted that the party had fulfilled all requirements for nomination of candidates, describing the exclusion of their candidates as gravely unjust.
Responding, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, Abdu Zango, acknowledged the reciept of their letter of compliant adding that there is a window for appeal until October 24.
“Basically, what they came to do is to present a complaint about the omission of their candidates. INEC has made the point very clear, the reason for the omission and the fact that there is a window of appeal up to the 24th of October,” Zango said.
He said the petition would be forwarded to the national headquarters of INEC for consideration and further action .
“We are very neutral. We received all the complaints” he said assuring the delegation that their petition will receive the necessary attention, he added.
Zango also commended the Movement for the peaceful and orderly manner in which they organised thelselves.
Habib Mohammed, the spokesman of the Kwankwassiya Movement hinted that their petition also made an allegation of forgery and collusion by an INEC staff member.
He alleged that unauthorized letters -with suspected forged signatures- were submitted to INEC headquarters, leading to the substitution of some of their candidates in Kano.
“We have asked INEC to investigate the officer before taking further action,” he said, adding that the Movement was satisfied with the assurances given by the REC. End.
