Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, believes that the letters addressed to the Armenian prisoners held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, should reach their addressees.
Speaking with reporters Wednesday, Mirzoyan stated that these letters should be forwarded to their addressees, and all persons deprived of their liberty have the right to communication and visits regardless of the status and terminology used.
According to him, Armenia is discussing these matters directly with Azerbaijan and through third countries. In response to the question regarding the return of the Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan said that he would not like to give a definitive answer, but emphasized that the presence of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan does not contribute to peace, and efforts aimed at their release do not stop.
The minister , however, declined to make any predictions, reasonably noting that this decision does not depend on the Armenian side. Also, the Armenian foreign minister said that he “honestly” does not understand the motives for delaying the resolution of this issue.
“Azerbaijan’s authorities present certain rationalizations that are not very comprehensible to me,” Ararat Mirzoyan noted.
