(ANSA) - ROME, 22 OTT - The supreme Court of Cassation on Thursday rejected the appeals and finalized four-month suspended prison sentences for 13 far-right militants who performed Fascist salutes during an annual march in Milan on April 29, 2018 commemorating Sergio Ramelli, an 18-year-old member of the neofascist youth group Fronte della Gioventù (Youth Front) who was killed by the far-left group Avanguardia Operaia in 1975.
Ramelli was brutally attacked with iron bars and wrenches in March 1975 and died 47 days later. His case remains a prominent event from Italy's Anni di Piombo (Years of Lead) of rightist and leftist terrorism.
The defendants were charged with engaging in a fascist demonstration, in violation of Article 5 of the Scelba Law banning the reconstitution of Mussolini's Fascist Party.
There have been contradictory rulings on Fascist salutes in Italy in recent years with them often going unpunished if adjudged merely commemorative.
