KARACHI: The electricity crisis in Karachi has intensified after K-Electric initiated loadshedding on more than 150 previously exempted feeders, ARY News reported.
Power outages in several areas have surpassed 12 to 15 hours, worsening the public’s misery. In some localities, standard loadshedding duration has climbed from 9 hours to 12 hours daily.
Under the new power management schedule, even low-loss areas have been reclassified alongside high-loss zones. Critics contend that the sole power utility in the city is shifting the burden of power theft and unpaid bills directly onto law-abiding citizens.
Furthermore, power shutdowns lasting three to six hours are now occurring regularly in exempted residential areas.
Residents report that K-Electric frequently attributes these power outages to maintenance work and technical faults. Beyond scheduled loadshedding, unannounced supply interruptions lasting between 8 and 15 hours continue across the city.
Affected areas include North Karachi, Landhi, DHA, Clifton, PECHS, Liaquatabad, Orangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Nazimabad, Federal B. Area, Malir, and Manzoor Colony.
