IMPHAL, Oct 22 : Barely 24 hours after several houses were burnt in Chassad's Khoikai, around 15 houses at Pilong village in Kamjong district were burnt this afternoon by suspected militants, said sources.
Pilong has seen similar arson incidents in the recent past. Several abandoned houses at the village were burnt on October 18.
The arson at the village today took place at around 3 pm, said sources.
The arson occurred within 24 hours of the DGP's visit to the district.
Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh, accompanied by Additional DGP (Law & Order) and DIG BSF had visited the district following the arson on October 21 morning at Khoikai village.
During the visit, the DGP had held a security coordination meeting with representatives of security forces including the Assam Rifles.
The DGP had also met representatives of the Kuki and Naga civil society organisations and reportedly assured that the State police and the Central security forces were taking necessary measures, including intensified patrolling and area domination, to prevent recurrence of arson incidents and maintain peace.
The State police's daily press note issued in the evening had also said that the "overall law-and-order situation in the State during the last 24 hours was under control."
Kamjong district, in the past several weeks, has witnessed repeated incidents of arson. Particularly the villages near the border with Myanmar have faced multiple infiltrations and attacks by Myanmar- based militants.
