KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 U-17 Women’s Asian Cup final round were dashed after a 4-0 defeat to India in their final Group E match at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium today.
India took the lead in the 28th minute when Redima Chingkhamayum beat the Malaysian defence with a long-range effort.
India extended their advantage six minutes into the second half through Pritika Barman before Anushka Kumari added a third three minutes later with a powerful strike from outside the penalty box.
Malaysian goalkeeper Putri Aina Husna Mohd Subri put in a commendable display, making several key saves to prevent further goals.
Malaysia sought to pull a goal back, but their attackers were unable to break down the Indian defence before Nidhi Kumar sealed victory for her side in the 86th minute.
The young national squad had opened their qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win against Syria before defeating Iraq 4-0 in their second match.
Under the tournament format, the eight group winners will qualify for the 2027 U-17 Women’s Asian Cup in China from March 31 to April 17, 2027, joining four teams that have already secured their spots, namely defending champions North Korea, Japan, Australia and host nation China.
