Seoul's Nowon District has doubled the number of vehicles eligible for assistive-device support to six this year from three last year, part of an effort to improve mobility for people with severe disabilities.
The program covers people with severe physical or brain lesion disabilities who cannot move without a wheelchair. It provides up to 11.2 million won per person to install or retrofit vehicle lifts, ramps and wheelchair loading devices.
The district completed retrofits on six vehicles in September and held a test-drive event on the 21st at the electric mobility device driving practice ground at the Jungnangcheon Environment Center. About 100 people attended, including recipients and their families.
Free inspections and cleaning services for electric mobility devices were also offered at the event.
"We will continue disability-friendly policies in everyday life so that people with disabilities and their families can enjoy greater comfort in their daily lives," Nowon District Mayor Seo Jun-oh said.
