In the cold winters of Toronto, there is one band that brings the warm, pulsating heat of a Sri Lankan Baila night — Toronto Ceymphony! And at the heart of it all is Gamini Hemalal!
For those who have followed Sri Lankan entertainment in Canada, Gamini is no stranger. He is the vibrant male vocalist and MC of the band; the man who holds the audience in the palm of his hand with his voice, his humour, and his unforgettable stage presence.
Toronto Ceymphony is more than just a band. It is an institution.
Based in North York, this dynamic ensemble — complete with professional Sennheiser and Electrovoice sound, guitars, keys, drums and percussion — calls itself the “Ultimate Live Party Band Experience” and they truly live up to that name.
What is their secret? Their signature!
If there is one word that defines Ceymphony in Toronto, it is PISSU BAILA!
Their Halloween Pissu Baila Party has become the most awaited event in the Canadian Sri Lankan calendar.
After a spectacular sold-out hit in 2025, they are back with Halloween Pissu Baila Party 2026 on Friday, 30th October – another sold-out event – at the prestigious Angus Glen Golf Club, Markham, featuring Corrine Almeida as special guest, with $1,500+ in prizes, welcome drinks, spooky snacks, and non-stop dancing till 1 AM!
But Ceymphony doesn’t just party — they honour our legends.
When the legends of Sri Lankan music arrive in Canada, who provides the music? Ceymphony! They were the official music arrangement and live backing band for “An Intimate Musical Evening with legendary Sohan Weerasinghe (X-Periments)”, including a touching tribute to the late, great Mariazelle Goonetilleke with the song ‘Kandy Lamissi’.

And they dream even bigger. Their Mega Stars Spring Blast Dinner Dance is now considered one of the grandest Sri Lankan musical nights ever held in Canada. The last edition brought together an extraordinary constellation of stars on one stage — Piyal Perera and Ravi Terrence of the Gypsies, Lahiru Perera (La Signore 2.0), Nushika Fernando, and Sohan Weerasinghe — all powered by the magical sound of Ceymphony Sounds!
Ceymphony provided the music for a recently held Sarong Party and it turned out to be a successful and memorable evening.
They also have the following events coming up before the year ends: 28th November – Adara Sulanga; 18th December – Christmas Party / Dinner Dance, and 31st December – Royal College OBA Canada, New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance.
From intimate private parties to corporate events, from festivals to their famous cuisine nights at The Base Kitchen + Bar in Scarborough — where they blend Sri Lankan dinner with live music — Gamini Hemalal and his Ceymphony Band are doing what they do best: keeping the Sri Lankan heartbeat alive, 13,000 kilometers away from home.
As they say so beautifully, “Music is more than just sound; it is a bridge between cultures.”
And Gamini’s bridge, along with Ceymphony, is strong, beautiful, and built to last!
