Police have recovered the dismembered body of a 35-year-old woman from a house in the capital's Jatrabari area and detained her husband in connection with the killing.
The deceased, Shirin Begum, was found cut into 4 pieces at a house in Mirhajirbagh in South Jatrabari around 3:30am today (12 October), following a report received through the national emergency helpline 999.
The body was later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Mohammad AKM Moinuddin, investigation officer of Jatrabari Police Station, said police recovered the body after receiving the emergency call and detained her husband, Dulal, 50, from the scene.
According to preliminary information, the couple frequently quarrelled over allegations of an extramarital relationship involving Shirin, the officer said.
Moinuddin added that Dulal allegedly killed his wife sometime during the night and dismembered her body.
Police have sent the body for an autopsy to determine further details of the incident.
Legal proceedings are underway, the officer added.
Shirin's ancestral home is in Bikhakhali village under Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali district. Her father was the late Sohrab Ali.
She is survived by a son who lives in Chattogram and a daughter who lives in Gazipur. Police said they had been informed of the incident.
