A tense situation erupted at Bangladesh Krishi Bank as the MD and DMD were besieged under the leadership of Zia Parishad President Sohrab Zakir. On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 26, the Zia Parishad, led by Sohrab Zakir, surrounded the MD and DMD of the bank, demanding the cancellation of several transfer orders of employees. This action violated administrative rules and created a highly charged atmosphere. At that time, under the leadership of Bangladesh Krishi Bank Employees’ Union President Foyez Uddin Ahmed and General Secretary Miraj Hossain, nationalist-minded officials and employees confronted the Zia Parishad, raising fears of clashes between the two groups.
On June 22, through an order signed by Professor Dr. Emtaz Hossain, General Secretary of the central committee of Zia Parishad, the 61-member Krishi Bank Zia Parishad committee was dissolved. Earlier, on May 31, the committee had been announced. The dissolved committee, including its president, vice presidents, and general secretary, were mostly close associates of the fallen government and deeply involved with the activities of the Awami League in the past. Their activities, such as offering floral tributes at Tungipara, taking selfies with pro-Awami MPs and ministers, and their social media posts, revealed them to be opportunists and supporters of fascist practices. After August 5, they abruptly changed their stance and began posing as nationalists. According to information from Krishi Bank, they had actually been beneficiaries of the fallen government since the beginning of their careers, essentially Awami League loyalists.
Without any discussions or consultations, on August 25, Professor Dr. Emtaz Hossain, General Secretary of the central committee, issued another letter revoking the June 22 dissolution order. Many in the bank believe that approval was once again obtained in exchange for bribery. Within just a day of its reinstatement, the newly reconstituted Zia Parishad obstructed the administrative operations of the bank, disrupting its peaceful environment.
In the interest of maintaining order in the bank, leaders under the guidance of CBA President Foyez Uddin sided with the authorities. They arranged for the safe transport of the MD and DMD back to their homes in the evening.
Many remarked that senior officials of the bank had abandoned their important duties and become directly involved in politics, which constitutes a serious violation of the Constitution. This incident has left the bank in a state of extreme tension.
