What Vasco vs Palmeiras Is and Why It Matters
The Copa do Brasil is Brazil’s national knockout cup, and its later rounds are played over two legs. By the semifinal only four clubs are left, and each tie is settled over two matches.
Palmeiras host the first leg on Sunday 1 November at 16:00 Brasília time at Nubank Parque in São Paulo. The guide to the first leg in São Paulo covers that match.
Vasco vs Palmeiras, the return leg, is on Sunday 8 November at 17:00, CNN Brasil reported on 27 September. The other semifinal is Grêmio against Atlético Mineiro, whose second leg is on Saturday 7 November.
Palmeiras are second in the Série A table with 66 points, one behind Flamengo, after 31 of 38 rounds. The São Paulo club won the Copa Libertadores in 2020 and 2021.
Vasco, one of Rio’s four big clubs, were 15th in the league on 19 October and three points above the relegation zone. The fan news site NETVASCO reported that after round 31.
On Tuesday 20 October Vasco lost their Copa Sudamericana semifinal second leg to Boca Juniors, 3-1 at the Maracanã. That result ended their run in the continental competition.
The final is one match on Sunday 6 December at the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasília, with no kick-off time set. The guide to the Brazil Cup final covers that match.
Date, Kick-Off Time and US Eastern Time
Vasco vs Palmeiras starts at 17:00 Brasília time on Sunday 8 November 2026. That is 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 noon Pacific and 8 p.m. in London.
Brazil abolished daylight saving time in 2019, so Rio stays at UTC minus 3 all year. US clocks go back on Sunday 1 November, which makes Rio two hours ahead of New York on match day.
The first leg on Sunday 1 November starts at 16:00 Brasília time, or 2 p.m. Eastern. US clocks go back that morning, so the gap is two hours for both matches.
Three outlets reported the 17:00 start for Vasco vs Palmeiras in September, and NETVASCO listed it again on 21 October. Kick-off times can still move when television schedules change, so check the club’s match notice in the week of the game.
São Januário and How to Get There
São Januário opened in 1927 and is Vasco’s own ground. Fever’s venue page calls it the state’s largest private stadium, at Avenida Roberto Dinamite 10, in São Cristóvão.
The north zone lies several kilometres from the beach districts of Copacabana and Ipanema, where most visitors stay. Vasco vs Palmeiras here means a deliberate trip across the city rather than a walk from the hotel.
Tribuna de Jundiaí reported on 22 September that Vasco’s board considered the Maracanã but kept the return leg at home. The paper said São Januário has more than the roughly 15,000 seats the cup requires at this stage.
On OpenStreetMap coordinates the stadium is about 2.4 km, in a straight line, from the Maracanã and the Novo Rio bus terminal. It is about 6.9 km from Santos Dumont airport and 9.4 km from Galeão airport, and roads are longer.
The State Department advises its own employees not to use public municipal buses in Brazil. A licensed taxi or an app ride is the simpler choice, and the ride home should be arranged before the match.
We found no published match-day transport plan for the semifinal at São Januário. The wider picture of the city is on the Rio de Janeiro city page.
How a Visitor Buys a Ticket
Vasco has not announced sale dates, prices or sectors for Vasco vs Palmeiras, and we found no notice on 21 October. The club’s sale for its last home league game shows how the process is likely to run.
For Vasco vs Corinthians on 24 October, members could buy from 19 October at 10:00, in order of a priority rating. The general public, free-ticket holders and visiting fans followed at 20:00 that day.
Members buy through Sócio Gigante at sociogigante.com and the Vasco app, while statutory members use sociovasco.com.br. The public, free-ticket holders and visiting fans buy at vasco.eleventickets.com, according to the club’s notice as published by NETVASCO.
That notice priced general entry in the stands at R$90 (about US$18), with half-price tickets at R$45 (about US$9). VIP cost R$105 (about US$21), the Social sector R$150 (about US$30) and the visitors’ sector R$180 (about US$36).
The notice said 40% of the tickets on sale were half-price tickets. Dollar figures here use about R$5.02 to the US dollar, the rate on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
A cup semifinal may be priced differently, and Vasco has not published its list. Treat the league prices as a guide only.
Sócio Gigante announced that the Corinthians game was sold out on Monday 19 October, and NETVASCO posted the news at 15:20. That was almost five hours before the public sale was due to open at 20:00.
A visitor should expect Vasco vs Palmeiras to sell out to members first, so public tickets may never reach the open market. The notice does not say whether a foreigner can register with a passport instead of a Brazilian CPF tax number.
Test the registration on the ticket site as soon as sales open. Avoid street sellers and social-media offers, because a ticket you cannot verify may not get you through the gate.
Safety and Costs for Visitors
The US State Department rates Brazil at Level 2, exercise increased caution, because of crime and kidnapping. Its advisory of 31 August 2026 says drug-facilitated assaults, including sedatives put in drinks, are especially common in Rio de Janeiro.
The advisory says not to travel to favelas, the informal neighbourhoods, because tour companies and police cannot guarantee your safety there. It adds that gang fighting and police clashes sometimes extend beyond their boundaries.
It also warns that criminals target foreigners through dating apps and at bars. It adds that you should not walk on beaches after dark, because assaults are common.
The emergency numbers in Brazil are 190 for police, 192 for ambulance and 193 for fire. Save them in your phone before you leave the hotel.
Vasco vs Palmeiras should end at about 7 p.m. local time, so book the ride back before kick-off. Carry a copy of your passport rather than the original, and leave large bags and valuables at the hotel.
Ticket prices for the league game were low by US standards, from R$90 (about US$18) for general entry. Budget separately for the rides to and from the stadium, which are not priced here.
Entry Rules for US Citizens
The State Department says US citizens need a visa for Brazil, whatever the purpose, so apply before booking flights. The passport must be valid on the date of entry and have one blank page for the entry stamp.
No vaccinations are required for entry, and cash worth more than US$10,000 must be declared at customs under a Brazilian tax rule. The guide to Brazil visas explains the application steps.
How to Watch Vasco vs Palmeiras From the US
OneFootball’s offer, as reported on 1 September, covers the remaining Copa do Brasil matches through the final, with English-only commentary. The United States is not among the restricted markets.
That offer priced a single match at US$4.99 and a pass for all remaining matches through the final at US$12.99. Check the price and the semifinal listing in the app before match day, because they may have changed.
In Brazil, Vasco vs Palmeiras is listed on TV Globo, SporTV, Prime Video, Premiere and ge, Tribuna de Jundiaí reported. No US television channel has announced coverage, so most US fans will rely on OneFootball.
The league race that runs alongside the cup is explained in the Brasileirão title race guide. It is not confirmed that the same OneFootball stream covers Série A games.
What Is Not Confirmed Yet
Vasco has not announced the sale dates, prices or sectors for Vasco vs Palmeiras. It is also not confirmed how many tickets Palmeiras fans will receive.
The first leg on Sunday 1 November comes before Vasco vs Palmeiras, so the stakes at São Januário are not yet known. The result in São Paulo will shape the mood and the demand for tickets.
The CBF table lists São Januário as the venue, but Vasco’s board did consider the Maracanã. A late change of stadium is unlikely but cannot be ruled out until the club confirms its notice.
No US television channel has announced coverage of the semifinal, and the OneFootball price dates from 1 September. The kick-off time of the final in Brasília on Sunday 6 December is also still open.
