The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) today (19 October) cleared footpaths around Kazir Dewri intersection and nearby roads ahead of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's scheduled visit to the port city tomorrow (20 October).
The drive covered both sides of the road from Kazir Dewri intersection past MA Aziz Stadium to the Tiles Market, as well as the street in front of a local party office.
During the operation, authorities removed three truckloads and a tomtom-load of goods and disconnected several illegal electricity connections used by vendors.
According to a CCC press release, officials also recovered goods that street hawkers had hidden inside the stadium premises and behind nearby shops before clearing them from the area.
The operation was conducted by the city corporation's mobile team, Anik-3.
The prime minister's motorcade is scheduled to pass through the area during his visit on 20 October.
However, the press release did not explicitly state that the eviction drive was conducted in preparation for his visit.
