Coach Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns will welcome the Ole Miss Rebels to Austin in Week 8 college football action during a time when Arch Manning portal rumors swirled. Manning and the No. 19 Longhorns need a win to keep College Football Playoff hopes alive and all eyes are on Manning, including his head coach.
Leading up to the game, NFL insider Jordan Schulz had former Dallas Cowboys star Keyshawn Johnson on his show, during which he strongly disagreed with Johnson’s take on the Longhorns QB.
“I am as you know a big fan of Arch Manning…You don’t think he’s going to be the starter by the end of the season in Austin?” Schulz asked Johnson.

“He’s getting ready to play against a guy that I look at as the potential number one overall quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss,” Johnson said. “I’m lookin’ at that, and I’m lookin’ at Arch Manning, I’m lookin’ at the player. Damn the name! It’s the grandson, it’s the nephew, I get all that. But can he play football? Right now, he doesn’t give them the best chance to win. This kid KJ Lacey, redshirt freshman, is on his heels right now. You can’t tell me that Arch Manning is living up to the hype,” Johnson added.
“I don’t think at the end of the year, that he’ll be the starting quarterback. I just don’t see it.”
Texas’ recent struggles gave way to a Brian Kelly take pinning Manning’s issues on Sarkisian. The finger-pointing shows no signs of stopping unless Texas can bring home a win over the No. 7 Rebels, making Week 8’s contest all the more important.
