Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused the Federal Government of withholding NLNG dividends allegedly due to states until after the 2027 elections. He claimed the disputed funds could amount to ₦250 billion per state, or ₦9 trillion across the 36 states.
The Presidency has rejected the claim, arguing that the figures do not add up and that NLNG has never paid dividends on that scale. Makinde’s camp, however, says a reconciliation exercise identified a shortfall of about ₦9 trillion and is calling for clarity on how the funds were distributed.
