The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has warned political candidates, party leaders and their supporters in Oyo State against rhetoric and actions capable of undermining the peace and stability of the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
The warning was issued on Monday in Ibadan at a press briefing addressed by the National Financial Secretary of NANS, John Alao, alongside General Secretary, NANS South-West Zone D, Yussuf Ojetola, and Chairman, NANS Joint Campus Council, Oyo State, Uthman Abdul-Azeez.
NANS has expressed concern regarding reports of a protest allegedly organised by supporters of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, a governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.
During this protest, Governor Seyi Makinde was reportedly blamed for the senator’s failure to provide empowerment opportunities and other benefits for the constituency.
The National Secretary of the association described the argument as an attempt to shift responsibility and misdirect public criticism, insisting that elected officials must be held accountable for their respective mandates.

He faulted the rationale behind blaming a state governor for the performance of a federal legislator, noting that both offices have distinct constitutional responsibilities.
“Oyo State must not become a theatre of political desperation ahead of the 2027 elections. The peace we have enjoyed in this state over the past seven years must not be sacrificed on the altar of personal ambition or partisan rivalry,” he said.
